How an ADD medication played a role in my eating disorder

July 17, 2019Leave a comment

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is a common diagnosis, and I was one of the 4.4% of adults diagnosed. Now, my ADD wasn't diagnosed at the beginning of my eating disorder, but actually 5 or so years into it. I went to my nurse practitioner and explained how I was having difficulty concentrating in my college … Continue reading How an ADD medication played a role in my eating disorder

Your Weight Isn’t the Issue

July 9, 2019Leave a comment

When I say your weight isn’t the issue, I mean your weight truly isn’t the issue. Society, fitness experts, medical professionals, and weight loss programs want you to believe that your weight is the golden ticket to your self acceptance, to your happiness, and to all your successes in life. It just. isn’t. true. How many times have … Continue reading Your Weight Isn’t the Issue

Ever wonder what an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach is? When I get asked what I do for a living and answer with, "I'm an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach," I get the typical response of, "That is amazing! But what do you actually do again?" I get it!  Many times the traditional treatment method for eating … Continue reading What is an Eating Disorder Recovery Coach?

5 Ways to Know if You’re Taking ‘Healthy Eating’ to the Extreme

June 13, 2019Leave a comment

When did vegetables and fruit start to get a bad wrap? When did saying no to carrots or sweet potatoes or bananas or grapes get decided by their 'sugar' content? And when did the 'healthy' foods of the world become 'unhealthy?' Super confusing right? For the last few years of my 15 year battle with … Continue reading 5 Ways to Know if You’re Taking ‘Healthy Eating’ to the Extreme

3 Steps to a Healthy Relationship With Food

June 6, 2019Leave a comment

If you had to describe your relationship with food in ONE word, what would it be? That's the question I asked in my private Facebook community the other day. The word they chose would give me a pretty clear understanding where they are currently in their recovery journey (eating disorder, disordered eating, chronic dieting, etc..). … Continue reading 3 Steps to a Healthy Relationship With Food

You don’t have to like your body to be kind to it

May 31, 2019Leave a comment

Body kindness is more about doing than thinking. That's why you don't always have to have 'happy' thoughts about your body to respect and be kind to it. This is because our brain sometimes needs to play a little catch up while we put into action what we want it to believe and think. Which … Continue reading You don’t have to like your body to be kind to it

5 Steps to Overcome Over-Exercising

Over-exercising or exercise addiction is a real thing, and a real struggle for many. It's often influenced and to be frank, glorified, by diet culture. And my clients coming to me for eating disorder recovery most commonly have or are struggling with over-exercising as well. Are there health benefits to regular physical movement? Yes. Not all calories are created equal…And??

May 8, 2019May 22, 2019Leave a comment

Often times in the fitness and weight loss industries you will hear that not all calories are created equal. And to be honest, they're right. Calories, which are simply a unit of energy, are going to be different depending on the foods you choose to eat. But who cares? Frankly, food is food. Once we … Continue reading Not all calories are created equal…And??

3 Ways to Beat the Food Guilt

May 1, 2019Leave a comment

Honoring your health (with gentle nutrition) is an Intuitive Eating concept that often has a misguided definition. A definition of eating healthy or clean or eliminating sugar or processed foods...all of which just enable the diet mentality. And when you enable the diet mentality, you move further and further away from honoring your health. Because … Continue reading 3 Ways to Beat the Food Guilt

Can we stop the whole ‘quarantine 15’ hoopla?!
It’s okay if the screaming non-stop thoughts about making sure to eat ‘healthy’, avoiding all carbs, absolutely no sugar, staying away from the evil processed foods, or any other ‘lies’ that are brought to your attention seem a bit louder than normal.
What if you actually ate the foods you crave? 🤔
That’s exactly what I am doing.
When you label foods, especially with ‘good’ vs ‘bad’, you are predisposing yourself to feelings and emotions that follow suite. Like guilt, shame, and judgment.
This could be your weight, size, appearance, how much to eat, what to eat, when to eat, etc…
Not often enough do we give ourselves the benefit of the doubt for kicking ass. 👊
Wanting to be healthy is not a bad thing. .
I was totally that person who scrutinized certain vegetables and fruit based on their sugar content. 😭
